Recently, the "Sanhang Xiang'an," China's first 5,000-ton boom-type self-propelled DP crane vessel independently designed and constructed by CCCC Third Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., successfully completed its first dynamic positioning (DP) lifting operation.
The "Sanhang Xiang'an" boasts a main hook lifting capacity of 5,000 tons with an outreach of 45 meters and a lifting height of 133 meters above the deck. Its auxiliary hook can lift 1,200 tons with an outreach of 70 meters and a lifting height of 150 meters above the deck, making it the most comprehensive boom-type self-propelled DP crane vessel in China. Equipped with three 2,500 kW full-revolving thrusters at the stern and two 3,000 kW bow thrusters, the vessel operates in a "DP positioning + anchor mooring" dual mode for large-scale offshore component lifting operations.
This operation involved hoisting a four-pile jacket structure weighing over 2,000 tons in waters approximately 40 meters deep. Due to the presence of submarine cables in the area, conventional anchor-based operations posed risks of cable damage. Consequently, the project team adopted the "DP lifting" mode.
To ensure the success of this inaugural DP lifting operation, the equipment management department, marine construction division, and project team of CCCC Third Harbor Engineering Bureau Sixth Company coordinated efficiently. They conducted thorough technical and safety briefings, clarified responsibilities and operational requirements, analyzed potential risks, and formulated mitigation measures. While prioritizing safety and quality, the team optimized construction progress and meticulously planned the process. The jacket was successfully installed within five hours, validating the vessel’s exceptional DP performance and laying a solid foundation for future large-scale offshore DP operations.
The smooth execution of this first DP lifting operation further demonstrates the vessel’s robust capabilities, providing strong support for subsequent projects. The "Sanhang Xiang'an" will not only be utilized for offshore wind power foundation installations (e.g., jackets and monopiles) but also for substations and large offshore component installations, contributing to China’s carbon peak and neutrality goals.(by Xi Xiangyue)
