Tens of thousands of people were unable to access Spotify today in a major outage for the popular music streaming app.
The issues, which have now been resolved, began around 1pm and went on until after 5pm.
When we tried opening it up,we were also unable to access the app, which just showed a black screen with loading bubbles.
Spotify Status said in an update: ‘We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!‘
They later updated to say: ‘We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false.’
Around 5.10pm,they confirmed: ‘All clear – thanks for your patience. Get in touch with @SpotifyCares if you still need help.’
At the peak of the problems,DownDetector,a website which tracks web outages, showed 21,000 reports.
We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!

Frustrated users who struggled to access the app turned to social media to express their annoyance, with some saying they had tried on multiple devices with no luck.
‘My morning run is gonna be awful,’ one commented.
Writing on DownDetector, user ‘meow’ wrote: ‘Spotify is down for me – using it on PC Desktop. Wouldn’t play music, suddenly signed me out and when I’m redirected to log back in,it says 502 Server error.’
It comes after the streaming platform also had problems on April 9.
A spokesperson wrote: ‘We’re aware of some recent issues that should be all clear now! Thanks for your patience, you rock. Give @SpotifyCares a shout if you need anything.’
Responding to issues today, the same account advised users to ‘try logging out > restarting the device > logging back in to see if it makes any difference’.
Right now,you probably won’t be able to listen to anything at all now that Spotify has confirmed issues,so you’re in luck if you’ve got a vinyl collection,or an old Walkman kicking around.

Once it’s up and running again, you’ll be able to breathe easy with background tunes again.
Maybe Birds of Feather by Billie Eilish, which confirmed as the most streamed song on Spotify in 2024.
Or ‘Stick Season’ by Noah Kahan, which was the most streamed song in the UK specifically.
